My name is Anthony Falconer. I noticed an advertisement on LinkedIn for a position for an online tutor. This position interests me for many reasons as teaching is my passion and I always like to explore new areas of education, training and teaching itself.
During my school days History and English were always my favourite subjects. As a man with an interest in literature and culture these are the subjects I thrived in. Upon attending University I studied for a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History, English and Ancient Classics. My passion for History outweighed that of English and so I continued my education through a Master of Arts Degree in Military History and Strategic Studies.
I have previous experience in teaching as I spent just shy of four years in Hartstown Community School, which I attended throughout my Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate. My main responsibilities were as an SNA along with Substitute Teaching. Working one to one with a student, who had learning difficulties, was so rewarding, as you can focus on texts primarily with the student themselves, as opposed to the wider audience of a classroom.
I also was given an opportunity in Coolmine Community School in 2022 as an English and History teacher through Junior and Senior cycle. I had my own classes as well as picking up substitution classes. Throughout my time there my timetable was added to with special tuition classes, for students whom were struggling and/or indeed not comfortable in a full class environment. I worked one on one with four students to help them through their Junior Certificate exams, which all four passed.
From September until present, I have stood in as a substitute teacher in Danu Community Special School. It has been so rewarding knowing and indeed witnessing making a difference in students’ lives, helping them with their development and enabling them a stepping stone for their future.
I have worked with people my whole life and as mentioned, my passion is for teaching and providing assistance to those who need extra help and focus to achieve their goals. I am always open to options in my professional career and being an online tutor is definitely something I would love to undertake to further my own development and experience as a teacher.
