I have experience tutoring school children from ages In the past, I have remotely tutored classrooms in the months leading up to their State Board Examinations. Besides this, I have several years of experience tutoring children one on one during university summer breaks. I like to be empathetic and enthusiastic with my tutees, and approach the tutorials as opportunities to discover the possibilities of Literature, and the joy that comes with mastering a subject.
My preferred methodologies are looking at sections of the text for in-depth analysis while creating a sensibility for context, canon and tradition. I encourage comparative study and cultivating critical thinking, often by using mind maps and short response essays. I believe that tutoring is a collaborative process and thus like to work actively with response I receive on feedback forms, which I send out bi-monthly or at request.
My academic training in Literature gives me a diverse knowledge of literatures across cultures, in translation and in different theoretical contexts. In my undergraduate degree, I studied English literature from Chaucer to 20th century Modern Literature. Besides English Literature, I studied Russian Formalism, American Literature, Postcolonial Literatures and Ancient and Modern Indian Literature. Not only did this give me a wide understanding of the nuances of each tradition, but also the ability to do comparative study between them, which ultimately gave me the skills to analytically assess the strategies and technical experiments of each text in the context of a wide tradition. My expertise, however, is in English Literature. In my Masters at University College London, I studied Modern Literature in English, from Eliot, Joyce, Woolf to contemporary authors such as Claudia Rankine and Rachel Cusk. Knowledge of authors ancient, modern and contemporary makes me especially able to invite the student's interest from different possible points of entry, and also suited to work with canonical texts that are usually included in GCSE syllabuses.
