My approach to tutoring will greatly depend on what qualification and which areas your child needs help with.
For each topic I will first do a blurting exercise and check this against the exam spec to find out exactly which concepts your child needs to work on. We will then focus on these concepts and find out if its a case of not quite understanding them or just forgetting them - at which point we’ll do lots of flash card-esque activities, as active recall is the most effective technique when revising a lot of content at once.
Once they have nailed the content, we will move onto trying out lots of different exam questions on that topic. This part can often be the trickiest, but we’ll spend the most time on exam technique and getting what they know into an answer which demonstrates they know exactly what they’re talking about to an examiner.
It’s also really important to go through as many full past papers as possible, in timed conditions. It’s also quite often a lot more helpful for somebody else to mark these papers to avoid a bit of bias, which i will gladly do!
It’s so important to get on top of revision in the next few months (especially for alevel students) so it doesnt catch up with you in May/June. Revisiting earlier topics little and often before the work load becomes a lot heavier will be the key to exam success and i very much hope i can help with that!
