I like to start off by seeing where the student's baseline level is - what they know, what they're confident in, what is fun for them when it comes to learning and how they like to learn, before focusing in on what they might be struggling with. I like to start off by seeing where the student's baseline level is - what they know, what they're confident in, what is fun for them when it comes to learning and how they like to learn, before focusing in on what they might be struggling with. I go over some notes with them to get the basics of the content down, and this is done in an active way, usually with a fill in the missing word exercise or walking through an example together. This leads nicely onto practice questions, which are the most important thing for consolidating the information, and going through the answers with them. Finally at the end of the lesson I will ask them what is one key thing that they have learnt from the lesson, and will give them a brief summary of the main points. I continually check with the student as they are working through if there is anything they're not sure about/would like help with to make sure that they feel supported and encouraged.
