I think that it is important to set a goal at the start of tutoring so we know we're on the same page and so that you can measure your improvement. From my own experience, I've found that a helpful starting point is working through past papers or previous tests. From this we can pin-point any difficult topics and then spend some time going over problems together. Once you feel more confident, you can take the lead with the problems, though I'll still be there to help if needed.
I got an A in Maths A-level and went on to study Fine Art at Newcastle University. While at Uni, I volunteered with a refugee organisation where I tutored English and Maths. While tutoring GCSE maths I remembered my love for maths and for helping people to understand. I think that my experience as a humanities student makes me an empathetic and approachable tutor as I remember what it was like to find topics difficult.
