My top priority is always to be friendly, and understand your student's struggles to be able to teach as helpfully as possible and without any condescension. I have a very developed understanding of the GCSE curriculum for English Literature and Language, and can tailor lessons to what an exam board will require to make sure your student has the best opportunity at the grade they deserve. I also make sure to always factor in your child's needs, making sure to communicate well with them, and to make lessons conversational and interesting so they can become engaged in the topic - which I believe is essential for learning any subject. This can include using diagrams, charts and tables for explanations and notes which help to visually learn, providing the ability to retain information more easily.

However, English largely isn't a fact or memory based subject, and the most important thing is to be able to understand meanings behind texts and how these are contextually important. This is the most engaging and thought-provoking part of the subject, and what I find continuously amazing. Discovering these meanings is akin to solving a detective puzzle, and is endlessly rewarding when points link up and thoughts spark! I aim to achieve this level of passion in your student too, helping them discover English through their own interests (for example, analysing texts that bear relevance to their hobbies) so that they will not just learn, but also come to enjoy the process.

I have had significant success with this in previous tutoring roles, and have found relating a subject back to the student at hand to be the crucial factor of teaching any subject!
