The pedagogical strategy that I adopt relies upon how students learn concepts and chose to apply them accordingly on a business setting. To that end, I employ case studies, snippets from business newspapers, magazines and academic journals from which students are then encouraged to team up, address the problem indicated in the aforementioned documents and offer ways through which these issues can be solved through presentation, interesting videos and other forms of submissions (reports, relevant assignments). For instance, by learning the theory of service quality (SERVQUAL), students can assess the tangibility, reliability, responsiveness, assurance and empathy in services provided by brands through which they can present how various brands identify themselves with customers thereby understanding how SERVQUAL can enhance identities of various notable brands.
The quizzes, tests, and assignments I adopt helps to examine the critical ability of students. I also encourage students to recognize the need of referencing and strictly adhere to the rules of plagiarism.
During my experience as lecturer and subsequently as Assistant Professor at BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT), I noticed the inclination of students learning only from materials provided in my lecture sessions such as handouts and my lecture slides. I rectified this problem by referring students’ books and key articles from academic publications which is also taken into account on my tests/examinations
I am also willing to learn new methods of teaching should my colleagues attempt to share their ways of enlightening students in the field of business and academics.
