Hi, I'm Angela and I've worked in quite technical areas for my entire career. I have been a university lecturer (mostly statistics, but also some maths, and business studies), then moved on to be an applied statistician, mostly in financial services, where I specialised in quantitative and operational risk management. I have taught and trained people throughout my career and its one of my favourite parts of work.
Having nearly 20 years of hands on experience with students and staff at different knowledge levels, I understand that not everyone learns in the same way or at the same pace, and technical subjects often require practice and patience for things to click, as well as putting in the time, effort, and context.
Coming from industry, I usually like to put things into context to bring them to life, and I have lots of experience to draw on, particularly in the maths and IT areas. However, if all you want is lots of practice in a specific topic, then I am happy to guide you through that and ensure that you properly understand the mechanics of it.
I will ask you about your experience and what you like/dislike about your current learning method(s). Sometimes the difference between understanding and not is as simple as hearing someone else say it a bit differently. Other times, we need to start over! I will work with you to find out where you are, what you need, and help you to feel supported through your studies.
We will do plenty of practice exercises in areas you're finding tricky, to get you more comfortable with those, and I will make sure that you are happy with the foundations underpinning them too.
