I have been in the graphic design industry as a designer, creative director and business owner for over 30 years. In that time I have seen graphic design evolve from from scalpels and Letraset to digital workflows. I was there that the birth of the web and quickly became one of the original web designers.
I am experienced in all areas of graphic design including illustration, packaging, brochure design image manipulation, web design, exhibition design, packaging, photography, advertising, poster design, record covers, book layouts and branding,
Throughout my career I have made an effort to share my knowledge with industry professionals, students and with schools from primary to 'A' level pupils as well as being a career mentor to degree students. I was also (and sometimes still am) an Apple software and hardware trainer and troubleshooter.
My training has always been completely tailored to the person I'm teaching and takes into account their age, experience and requirements. I often uses a specific project or piece of work they are (or have been) involved with as a starting point. This makes all the work we do much more memorable, as it relates to something familiar rather than an avalanche of new information.
Graphic Design is both a creative and technical subject. I show students how to find the frame of mind to create their best work, as well as sharing in-depth knowledge of design software, print processes, artworking and designing for the web.
I also teach soft skills such as how to deal with clients, take criticism, and work as a freelancer.
