I can teach conversational, written and academic English skills, as well as academic and professional (commercial) presentation skills, including PowerPoint design and execution.
I also have considerable experience in proofreading academic text on a wide variety of topics up to and including Masters level dissertations.
I also have a Postgraduate Certificate in English & History, and the DELTA EFL qualification (in addition to my Master’s degree.
In terms of 1:1 tuition, I can assist 4 main skills and also specialies such as English for Science, Art & Design, Economics and Business. This may include help with grammar, vocabulary, essay structure and referencing.
In addition to these higher level skills, I also teach elementary level students the ‘building blocks’ of English - functional English, which many students find useful in dealing with everyday matters, either at work or in their social lives. This is more that ‘survival’ English, as much of the language is grounded in cultural and social mores - idiomatic usage, levels of formality and listening to and communicating with other non-native users of English. These practical skills can be frustratingly difficult to acquire, but they needn’t be!
Students can, after an initial needs analysis, choose which areas they most want to focus on and the subsequent lessons are then tailored to their needs. Materials are free, though if the student wishes to purchase a particular course book that’s fine too.Lesson times and locations are fairly flexible, though a regular schedule is preferable, as it allows any homework to be set and feedback given in a more structured way.
