My lessons are catered to each student individually. If you like a more formal lecture style teaching I will do that, and if a more casual approach is preferred, that's fine too. I use Save my Exams as a resource, as this is an excellent platform which provides good practice questions. Whilst this platform does not have SQA material, the GCSE and A Level material is adequate for the subjects I tutor.
Usually my lessons would start with a recap of what my student has gone through at school that since the last lesson, and if there are any confusing topics from that material, we go over that material. We also go over any homework questions my student found challenging through the previous week. We then move on to other topics the student finds difficult. We go through the topic and then after some worked example questions, I ask the student to attempt questions ramping in difficulty as is appropriate. If they get stuck, I attempt to push the student to find the solution themselves before stepping in and showing them how to answer the question properly, and explaining the reasoning and method. We would then go through the topic again if this is a reccuring event.
I send all lesson notes that I make to the student after the lesson, and I set homework for the next week. If my student doesn't have access to the platform, I can provide the workbooks necessary.
Throughout tutoring, I keep constant communication with parents, highlighting problem areas they could have a positive effect on - missing homework, liasing with teachers etc, as well as providing progress updates about my student.
At the end of the day, I want my students to enjoy their subject, and learn to think about the questions and method properly.
My favourite moments are when my students get excited about the subject, and start feeling like they have truly progressed.
