I have taught mathematics for over a decade . I have been able to assist students in eliminating their phobia for mathematics. I normally do this by relating the topics with the basic everyday activities that they are familiar with.
I make my class an interactive one where I allow my students to put in their ideas before I can now come in to guide them.
I also employ some teaching aids to enable the learner have the pictorial idea of what the concept is all about. I work from what is known to my learners to the unknown. I also recommend some certain extra curricular activities for my learners in other to boost their critical reasoning. such games include scrabble , chess, monopoly and the likes. In addition, I engage with learners with lots of activities where they will have to take some tasks based on the lessons which I have delivered. With their performance in the task, I will be able to monitor their progress and thus give a feedback to their guardians. I also encourage my learners to get involved in any mathematics competition with their locality so that they can see how they compare with their peers in mathematics. Their performance in such competitions will tell how much more effort they need to put in.
In general , I make mathematics a fun activity to be engaged in. By so doing, my learners learn to fall in love with mathematics and get engaged in it effortlessly with little or no coercion from anyone.
