I have been teaching Spanish and English online to people around the world for about 4 years.
My career as an online teacher started working for an online teaching company located in Medellín, Colombia. With them, I taught a curriculum that they already had developed.
There I learned to hold a class with students of different ages and from different cultures.
Then I decided to specialize my knowledge of the Spanish language and did an online ELE course (Spanish as a Foreign Language). I learned the logic behind Spanish, and the traditional way of teaching based on grammar.
And that's when I looked for my own students. I had multiple experiences and helped several people to expand their vocabulary, to develop their listening and reading comprehension, and to remember the different tenses of Spanish, among other things.
I spent two years doing that until I began to doubt the traditional methodology of language teaching. From my point of view as a teacher, it seemed that its focus was more on teaching the why, that of teaching the how of the Spanish language, and that's why I set out to find another way.
After a couple of months of experimentation with the Assimil books, and many hours of research, I discovered a method developed in the 90s that seeks to emulate the organic learning of the mother tongue by children. Its name is TPRS.
TPRS stands for: "Teaching Proficiency through Reading & Storytelling", and its innovation relies on that it does not seek to explain Spanish to you, but to help you acquire it in an organic way, immersing yourself in a fun story that the teacher and the students tell together.
The idea behind this wonderful way of teaching a second language is that we can all learn any language, and the challenge is not in our ability to understand its grammatical concepts, but in our natural talent to listen, understand and interact.
And in that the more we do it, the more we develop our ability to speak a second language, completely natural and without the tedious need to memorize long grammar rules.
But, not only that, it also gives you the opportunity to listen to the language you want to learn in real time, and to start using it from the first day of classes.
So far, I have successfully completed several TPRS courses, including: TPRS for Beginners, TPRS Advanced, and TPRS "Strong" for Teachers.
I invite you to book a class with me so that you can experience the best way to learn a second language.
The TPRS ("Teaching Proficiency through Reading & Storytelling") method not only changed the way I teach, but also the way I learn, and I'm sure it will do the same for you.
If what you are looking for is to develop your natural talent to speak Spanish without extensive grammar rules, without textbooks, without homework, and in a safe space, free of prejudices, and together with an unconditional assistant to help you and guide you towards fluency, you have found your teacher: Hola, soy Andrés, y bienvenido a mi clase.
