In my opinion, my skillset and experience meets the criteria of some jobs as music teacher/professor.
I graduated with a grade of 10 having shown a mastery of Harmony, Counterpoint, New Compositional Styles and Orchestration, among other fields.
The fact that my degree is in Composition, added to having worked professionally as an arranger and producer, and also having sung in choirs and opera for many years, makes me have an ‘applied’ approach to music theory.
I’m skilled in teaching different styles of music and composition, always linked to the historical evolution of it. I’m able to analyze and specify the distinct music elements present in every period of music history, establishing comparisons for a better understanding. Same goes with counterpoint, since I studied its development in detail, having learned canon techniques, how to create inventions and also fugues. I’m skilled in baroque bass, figured bass, ornamentation and its notation.
I’d say I’m an experienced professor, since I’ve been teaching music privately for more than 10 years and more importantly, Harmony, Musical Analysis, Music History, Interpretation and Composing Techniques on official music institutions the last 3/4 years.
In addition to theory and teaching, there’s an important practical part of my musical trajectory. I worked many times as an orchestral arranger, having premiered multiple long duration works with different orchestras. I’ve published scores and I’ve published records in different music platforms such as YouTube or Spotify.
Related to the singing/aural skills, I’m experienced in chorale singing, since I have been part of choirs for at least seven years, having sung in numerous national and international contests, as well as interpreting the choral parts of numerous operas, sharing stage with prestigious soloists such as Bryn Terfel, Gregory Kunde or Angela Meade, among others.
My way of teaching is more than anything dynamic, whether it is at different moments practical or theoretical. I usually explain things through ‘examples’, preferably being able to use a piano to play or, if not, a speaker with connectivity. I’d find myself developing new ‘games’ and ways to explain and engage the students into learning all the different aspects of music as well as how music actually works ‘from the inside’.
