I go through past exam papers with my students in the beginning, and spot the type of questions and topics they are less confident in. Over the next lessons, I will focus on those until I ensure they are 100% confident in those, before moving on to other topics. I leave nothing unexplained and only move on when the student fully understands the current topic/problem.

I aim to help my students visualise the reason behind each of the solution steps, sometimes by drawing graphs or geometrically. I believe that, if they can see how the problem works, they will achieve a better understanding. I normally do this through Zoom/Microsoft Teams by using a whiteboard. For example, I used to tutor a girl who was predicted a C in A-Level Mathematics (and eventually got an A) using this method in integration and statistics questions, and it really helped her solve future questions and she become much more confident that before. I always ensure I explain as many times as required, as this brings both the student and me the satisfaction of a good lesson.
