My university degree from York University is an honours double specialist degree in French and Hispanic Studies and my second degree from the University of Toronto is a Bachelor of Education in primary education with French as a second language. I have taught at primary, secondary and university levels over the last 26 years in three countries: Canada, Spain and Scotland. I have also completed translating freelance work over the last 30 years. I have lived in Canada, Spain and now Scotland. I have travelled extensively all over the world. I have a true passion for languages and believe that everyone can learn it's just a matter of how as no two people learn in the same way. Most people learn if they are engaged, entertained and actively involved. This can be done through conversation of modern day topics or topics that interest the learner, playing games, watching short clips/videos, listening to radio ads, tv ads, short videos. The most important thing is that the learner leads the learning. It is the learner who decides which is the best way for them to progress and feel success. My teaching experience has not just been with children or young adults as I have also had the privilege of teaching adults in individual and group instruction. Teaching and program development is a passion of mine and one that I take great pride in as I have always been extremely aware of the need to cater to my audience no matter what the subject matter is. Creativity and innovativeness are always at the forefront of any curriculum I develop in order to guarantee a learning environment which is impactful, authentic and engaging. I believe in creating programs which are based on a strengths based model that allow all learners: a chance to meet the objectives set of a specific subject matter, participate in activities and enable them to experience success which will affect their self-esteem in a positive manner. Meeting the needs of my learners, based on: Gardner’s multiple intelligences, my experience in education with those who are neurodiverse and the complete understanding that no two people will learn the same way, is a non-negotiable when presenting and creating any lesson. It is of utmost importance that you prepare and deliver programs which are inclusive and benefit all. The strengths and interests of those taking part in the courses are the starting point for curriculum design, teaching pedagogy and any design of the learning environment. In order to create an atmosphere which is successful the use of multimedia is necessary and something I regularly incorporate into my lessons in order to create a learning environment for my teenage audiences which they can relate to and create and generate a curiosity of wanting to know more.
