Teaching at the University of Manchester for 2 years has taught me what the most efficient ways for students to learn are, whether it is a new language or one that they have been learning for some time. I have learned how to prepare for tailored and personal sessions, such as creating scenarios for students to benefit from, including vocabulary lists at the end to make sure everything is understood, sentences for translation which include new grammar pieces to learn, online games and quizzes to re-enforce learning with a fun element, speaking scenarios to improve the ability to think and give responses in the target languages on the spot, listening scenarios and practice, and how to write essays. I learned that when teaching, sessions must not just be simply reading off a sheet or writing down some answers, but rather offering practicality and keeping the students engaged with the language in as many ways as possible, and that enjoyment of learning is the most important part.
