I am a composer and am currently based in Manchester, studying at the Royal Northern College of Music. I have experience writing in a variety of styles - everything from impressionism to post-modernism - and have composed music for a wide range of ensembles. At the moment, I am fascinated by creating music which is both accessible, whilst also being intriguing, original and engaging. Some of my achievements include having been part of the ORA Singers' apprentice scheme, having had my music published in a British Music Collection article, and being an assistant composer on the Royal Northern College of Music Children's Opera. I have also had a piece featured on a national BBC Radio Mix, and have been given the opportunity to write for the BBC Singers.
My lessons are highly personalised, with it being led very much by student needs. We can delve into students' own compositions, discuss different styles and schools of music of the 20th Century, create listening lists to enhance the students' understanding of a certain style of music, or even explore ways to write for different instruments - the choice is very much up to the student! Every lesson is different and there's no fixed curriculum to stick to, enabling us to adapt as we go along.
Aside from my own composing, I have experience supporting other composers, having helped Year 11 Music students with their GCSE compositions whilst I was in Sixth Form. I have also completed the new Edexcel GCSE and A-Level music courses, putting me in a great position to support students who are studying the Edexcel Music syllabus.
