When I tutor, I like to provide a safe environment for kids to come with their difficulties. I meet with them on Zoom or if that is not applicable, maybe Skype. I like to get to know the student by trying to identify what the difficulties are and thus, writing a detailed list of goals that we will set out to achieve till the final examination. Each session will focus on a singular goal and I will try my hardest to provide my student with a PowerPoint presentation based around the topic whilst also pinpointing different examples for them to tackle. I will also include model examples for the student to look at if they are answering essay questions and ask them to identify what works according to the mark scheme from the specification. Once the presentation is finished, I will give the student an exercise to consolidate their learning and we will go over it together. At the end of the work I will identify two things the student has been successful in and one thing that calls for improvement. I will set a practice paper every few weeks for them to complete as homework and again, will mark it in the same manner as before. Every week I will try to set a task for them according to the lesson we have just completed. If they wish, they can also bring in their schoolwork or homework that they are struggling with and I will work with them to improve this.
