I have been a tutor since I was in year 11 as I took my maths gcse a year earlier than my year group . I now study a maths degree at university and thoroughly enjoy the vast concepts discussed within mathematics. Understandably there are many different ways to approach a problem in maths and I tailor my methods based on what way my students feel most comfortable . Mathematics is a subject that is the driving force behind an individuals ability to think critically and objectively . It’s a subject that provides a foundation for many other subjects and understanding it would make those subjects a lot easier for students . During my first lessons I like to get an understanding on how my students prefer learning , whether they’re visual learners or auditory learners , and I design my lessons around the things I’ve discovered about my students . For example , if the student is a visual learner I would try to incorporate a lot more diagrams into my explanations whereas if my student is an auditory learner I’d dictate my lessons more.
