I focus on tailoring the learning experience to each individual student. I have a death of experience in self-led learning having been homeschooled prior to university (achieving As and A*s in my school exams) so am able to equip my pupils with a range of useful study skills that they can use long term. Passing exams relies substantially on exam technique in order to achieve the best results in the most efficient manner, so ensuring my exam students are as prepped as possible is a top priority. I am also aware that interest in and enjoyment of the subject are highly important when it comes to a student's innate desire to achieve, so my approach also centres on engaging pupils in the subject matter so they are able to approach it with a depth of understanding that lays a strong foundation for their learning too build on.
I like to use model answers/questions as a core framework for my lessons, as being able to explain content back to me is a key part of how I gauge a student's progress. It also helps them start thinking dynamically about the content, rather than regarding it as a set of information to be absorbed. I also encourage diagram drawing and use of flow charts/mind maps to aid both comprehension and recall, as well as making the leaning experience a more creative one.
