I usually start a lesson by drawing a still life. I use one of the items in the still life as my unit to measure from. So a measured drawing is achieved.
I then talk about light and shade. And how to get the objects to be three dimensional.
I then talk about painting. And explain about light and shade in a painting. I talk about warm and cool colours. Using a limited palette of colours. I teach them how to paint.
