I have 2 years of tutoring experience with students who have learning difficulties such as: dyslexia and ADHD. Additionally, I also have dyslexia and ADHD so I understand where students may struggle in grasping concepts under standard teaching practices. Lessons shall be adapted for each students needs but will follow the same foundational structure.
The first lesson shall include: an icebreaker to begin - for us to both learn a little about each other (hobbies, goals etc), a conversation about which areas in psychology are your strengths and weaknesses - for me to create perfect lesson plans which will improve weaknesses and maintain strengths, a fun little quiz - again to assess strengths and weaknesses to create the best lesson structure, lastly any questions or anything the student would like to include in their learning.
The following lessons will focus on a key topic in psychology - focusing on beginning with the weaker topics because I understand that these will be the most difficult to begin and learn. They will each begin with going over the homework set the lesson before - making sure the student understands where their understanding is lacking and where they have understood things thoroughly. Depending on how well the student has completed their homework will dictate whether a further lesson is needed. The lesson will then continue on to the topic chosen (such as: attachment) and the student will learn the material and complete exercises to practice their learning. If the student has worked hard throughout the lesson, a video on the topic will be shown as a way to reward the student whilst keeping them engaged with the topic. Finally, a little quiz at the end of the lesson to showcase their learning and homework will be set for them to keep practising their knowledge outside of the lesson.
Toward the end of their learning, students will be given practice exams to take during the lesson to help them understand what is expected of them and to help with their time management with questions. The practice exams will be reviewed together before being taken to make sure the student feels less anxious about the upcoming questions. Practice makes perfect! The more practice a student has, the less anxious they will be when having to take their final exam.
