I have a passion for learning and teaching languages. My passion came to light after I traveled to Germany at 16. I was also learning Spanish at the time, and these combined experiences, helped me realize that I can’t imagine spending my life in any way other than teaching language. I believe that by learning a second or third language, we are able to double or triple the experiences we can have, and the connections we can make. Everyone deserves the right to choose where and how they want to live their life, and for many, language makes that a real possibility.
I graduated from the University of South Florida in 2022 with a Bachelors degree in World Languages and Cultures: Applied Linguistics. During my time in undergrad at USF, I took many classes on second language acquisition and language teaching pedagogy. Through studying and taking place in many teaching demo-lessons, I am very knowledgeable in teaching a language. Many of the issues that arise when learning another language, I also faced when learning my second and third language. Therefore, I understand students’ struggles and have learned strategies to overcome those challenges. During my undergraduate degree, I also taught an Adult ESL learner 1-on-1 for 11 months. She came from a Spanish-speaking country, and struggled with pronunciation and grammar.
After finishing my undergraduate education, I enrolled in the Linguistics: Teaching English as a Second Language Masters program at USF. I will be entering my second semester of the program in the Fall of 2023, and continuing to learn about the language acquisition process. As part of my education at USF, I have also been awarded a teaching assistantship. For this, I tutor undergraduate student in Spanish and German language. This takes place 1-on-1 in person and online.
In the future, I plan on obtaining a PhD in Second Language Acquisition. I truly love the process of learning a language, and my goal is to help others understand and embrace that process.
