Having taught German and French, as well as sciences to a large number of students, I take a personal approach to each.
In general, however, I believe in the power of repetition and active learning - doing interactive or exam style exercises based on new information, depending on the goal.
I tend to take some time to check how well the material of the previous lesson has been understood and how much knowledge has been retained overall, adjusting my teaching style based on that.
I also try to keep lessons interesting by varying grammar and vocabulary exercises and introducing level - appropriate articles, texts and videos. This has proven to work very well in keeping (especially younger) students engaged and hard-working.
