Below I listed some qualities that I have as a tutor
1. I am empathetic who understands what it’s like to be a student who may lack confidence, feel
stressed, be overwhelmed, or just not understand the material. Also as a mother to 3 children, I know how each child is different with their learning. I respect each child for their own style.
2. I believe that honesty is key between the student and the tutor Please do not hesitate to say that you do not know about a particular concept.
3. I am enthusiastic about learning as this opens to the doors to your world.
4. I am a good listener who will always display proper listening skills and I hope to receive the same level of listening from the student.
understand students’ misconceptions and errors.
5. As a tutor I will ask good, open-ended questions: The tutor should ask the student questions in order to evaluate a student’s understanding.
6. I will always encourage independence with the student. I am there to guide and assist, however, the student shall learn to focus and not be dependent.
7. I am patient which is probably the most important characteristic of a tutor. Display patience towards the student so they feel comfortable during the session.
8. I will allow for periods of silence. Avoid feeling like you have to interrupt a moment of silence by talking. Allow the student to reflect on the subject at hand before going on.
9. I will maintain professional boundaries; a tutor is a professional and a person of authority.
10. As a key factor of tutoring being non-judgmental is key. Every student is different do not make assumptions about students; treats all students as
individuals who want to learn and have the ability to learn no matter what their personal background or circumstances are
