I have learnt quite a few different languages and have had lots of different teachers. I am therefore very aware of the most effective ways to become really confident with a language. Having said this I am also very aware that learning a language is a very individual task and the lesson needs to be catered on the person, as some people learn through visual methods and others learn through listening and speaking the language. I usually start my lessons by doing a quick warm-up that is fun and engaging in order to get the student thinking about the language. Then we will usually move onto some vocabulary and grammar exercises and lessons as these are the back bone of the language. This will then progress into exercises that incorporate what has been learnt, as well as tips to help remember the skills. Especially if the student is revising for an exam the exercises that they are given will be taken from the exam that they will be completing. This will then lead onto a fun task at the end of the session which will hopefully end the session on a positive note, as enjoyment of the language is crucial when learning it. Depending on the level of the student the lesson will be done in as much of the language learnt as possible. There will be lots of handouts and things for the students to take away, which can be done online and also in person which the student can use to refer to later. Overall, I aim for my lessons to be very effective as I understand the time constraints that are often present, while also being as enjoyable as possible.
