English language tuition:
Learning a new language is difficult! English is my native language, but I also speak French and Spanish, with varying degrees of fluency, and I understand the difference that a dynamic and engaging educator can make to the learning process. I’m a strong believer in student-directed learning, so I am always guided by my students’ individual needs and learning styles, and my lessons are designed to be extremely interactive and communicative in nature. I use a wide range of authentic materials and resources in my online lessons, including newspaper/magazine articles, blogs/vlogs and YouTube videos, because I think that engaging with real examples of English is generally far more useful and productive than textbook learning (although textbooks do still have their place!). I enjoy working with motivated students that have a clear sense of what they want to achieve and are willing to dedicate themselves to realising their learning goals.
Bass guitar tuition:
I have been working as a professional musician for over five years. I have worked with numerous bands, playing everything from pop, to rock, funk, soul, R&B and jazz. I completed my master’s (MMus: composition and performance) at Leeds Conservatoire (formerly Leeds College of Music) in 2017. I currently play in several bands, doing both covers and originals, and I have provided private bass guitar tuition online and in-person. I’m a strong believer in student-directed learning, so my starting point is always to establish what exactly each student hopes to gain from their learning experience, and then subsequent lessons can be tailored to meet these specific needs. I’m always keen to structure lessons around the music that really excites each individual student, because I believe that this can be an extremely motivating approach to take, but I’m just as happy working on technique, theory, harmony, melody, rhythm and improvisation, or anything else that may be required, in isolation. Overall, I enjoy working with motivated students that have a clear sense of what they want to achieve and are willing to dedicate themselves to realising their learning goals.
