The Portuguese speaking world and it's history, architecture, art and music is my passion, and obviously the best thing about it for me is the language itself. I am British and also a Brazilian citizen, as my wife and daughter are Brazilian. We live in Rio de Janeiro.

I've been a language teacher for ten years and am now branching out internationally thanks to modern video call technology.
My style has always been communicative, but I am a huge fan of grammar, when I break into what we call the 'direct method'.
For the 'audiovisual method' students listen to the radio, news or music and watch TV, basically. Nobody needs to pay a private tutor to sit around watching series and listening to podcasts. However I generally point people in the right direction.

I am an avid traditionalist and students must have a decent vocabulary book to write down new words and also a lined exercise book (both hard back, for durability).

The materials used in class are sourced by me and stem from news articles, books (literature), musical lyrics and text books. I love designing my own grammar exercises and mini translations. I generally set homework for students to practice out of class hours.

I've studied foreign languages since I was 9 years old and have lived in France, Spain and Argentina, prior to moving to Rio de Janeiro full time.
