I can teach a range of different subjects and enjoy approaching each lesson with variety depending on the student's skills, areas of challenge, or interest. For architectural history and theory tuition, I will provide different readings/extracts which will be discussed during the sessions, and I will set essay questions which can be marked before each session and then discussed. I have a strong historical and theoretical backing, having written numerous academic papers on Classical Architecture and architectural representation.
I can also provide design consultation and advice based on each student's project. Having been taught under Frederick Phillipson at Cambridge (winner of the Sterling Prize), I have experience designing in varied social, historical and geographical contexts, including retrofitting existing buildings and proposing new buildings in different landscapes and towns. I can help students conduct their own research before designing projects and can help with representation tuition, both by physical hand-drawing and model making and through architectural software including AutoCAD, Rhino, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. By adopting an undogmatic pedagogy and embracing an open-ness to different architectural methodologies and styles, each student may develop their own approach and understanding of architecture.
I have practical architectural experience, having completed multiple internships at John Simpson Architects, ADAM Architecture and Craig Hamilton Architects. I have also won scholarships to attend the Ax:Son Johnson summer school in Stockholm and Cambridge, as well as the ICAA Intensive in New York. I won third prize for my measured drawing of Edwin Lutyens' Midland Bank in Piccadilly from the Traditional Architecture Group. I am currently practicing as a Part I Architectural assistant in London.
