I have various tutoring experiences from teaching classrooms and one-on-one, ranging from Year 7 to Year 12. Due to being a recent student, I understand common challenges and can provide support using unique teaching methods. My lessons run following a three-step process: reading specifications of the subject, completing slides of the topic, and attempting exam-style questions.
Reading the specification allows for guidance and acts as a checklist, which allows me to highlight each individual's strengths and weaknesses. This helps me provide personal support to students and track progress effectively.
Slides consist of images of example questions and key knowledge taken from text books on the subject. To pair with these practise questions and definition recall throughout the slides, At the start of each lesson, a recap of the last lesson accompanied by practise questions ensures constant recall implementation. To create a comfortable environment, a short icebreaker is implemented to engage with the students and gain approachability so they can easily be supported in the further future.
Exam practise is the key to consistently producing exemplary answers and learning exam technique. At the end of each module, a series of exam questions relating to the specification are completed and marked, recording this score for progress.
Linking these all together, students find themselves confidently and consistently answering exam-style questions. The personal support and tracking allow students to excel in all areas. Aside from teaching, I recommend further reading articles, journals, and theses to enhance comprehension skills and better tackle outside-specified exam questions.
