From there, I then work with the student on how to display that information coherently: writing a model answer according to the examination mark scheme. We review it, and then compare it against the original work, the student determining for themselves how to best improve their material, with my guidance.
In cases of poetry or longer prose, I begin with working through the text, and gathering initial impressions. Following this, we zero-in line by line on the specific techniques and effects used, and gathering material for an answer. Once this has been completed across the whole work, the effort of creating an answer using this material begins, and the student interrogates the material they have found, honing their work.
