I am a First Class graduate in History from a Russell Group university. I specialised in the study of witchcraft, specifically in Northern Italy, alongside which I studied the early modern period. Despite this, I am confident providing guidance across a range of time periods - this can be discussed on a case by case basis.
I aim to use my own experiences to inform those I teach so that they can avoid the mistakes which I, myself, have made previously. Lessons will be highly influenced by a student's exam board to ensure they excel in areas that the board considers important. Again, this would be something to discuss with each student.
Beyond this, I feel it is important that lessons are not wholly directed to 'pass the exam'. Our education system, particularly between GCSE and A-Level, focuses on teaching students certain formulaic, unoriginal responses to criteria. This results in students who can answer certain questions to a very tight formula, but fail to fully understand what it is they are writing about. Upon reaching higher education many students, myself included, find themselves wonderfully ill-equipped for the style of essays and interrogation demanded at universities.
I wish to ensure that my students do not fall foul of this issue. Consequently, lessons will work towards both exam-related targets as well as wider, more sweeping skills which can be applied across a range of disciplines.
