In my 31 year career, I have taught mainstream primary, been a SENCO, taught for a dyslexia service and led a language unit. I have also worked with children in care, led a dyslexia centre and been a Reading Recovery teacher leader. I ran the outreach service for a special school and most recently was Head of Education at NASEN. I still do some SEND consultancy and training for teachers.
I tailor all my lessons to the specific needs of each child, and always use multisensory, structured synthetic phonics. I have helped many children to become fluent and confident readers and writers. I work hard to build a child's confidence and self esteem, making sure they experience lots of success in each lesson. Lessons focus on reading, writing and spelling and I link to school work and homework whenever possible. I like to work closely with parents and provide practice activities to do between lessons.
