Alex Bickley in a nutshell
My lessons are casual and friendly, so that you know I'm approachable and that you are comfortable asking any questions you might have during our lessons. In my experience this has helped me to be able to have honest and open discussions to really work out where and what you're finding difficult. You won't be a silent observer, the whole session will be full of dialog and lots of engagement!

An expected format of a lesson is as follows:
- Prior to the lesson I will have established with you a topic or particular area of interest that you want to target.
- To begin, depending on how confident you feel in the area we might build from the ground up, exploring the fundamentals and key principles of that topic. Or, if you are just hoping for a refresher, this will be condensed to the key ideas, where I'll be asking more of you to explain your understanding and showcase your knowledge to me! I believe to truly master a topic you have to be able to teach it yourself!
- After this, you can expect to work on sets of example questions, first with more support, and later entirely independently. The crux of doing well in the practical and assessed form of maths, is mastered and honed by completing example questions.
- Finally, by the end, I might ask you to explain to me how the topic we just covered operates, what it means, and teach me how I should approach an example question.
