I have had 2 years experience tutoring a wide range of students from KS1 to GCSE.
I discuss with the student the topic they want to cover during the lesson in advance. At the start of the lesson, I will ask some quick fire questions to understand their existing knowledge on a topic. We will then cover material through a combination of PowerPoint slides and questions. We will then look at practice questions and mark them to understand and learn from any mistakes. At the end, I will ask some knowledge based questions to see if their understanding of the topic has improved. I will then give some homework for the student to do which will reinforce the material covered during the lesson.
I like to implement evidence based learning strategies into my lessons (e.g. spaced repetition and tell-a-friend) as I believe those are great ways to retain information in the long term which is crucial for exam preparation!
