Sono Alberto Manni, italiano di nascita, laureato al Politecnico di Milano in Ingegneria Elettronica nel 1993.

Ho vissuto e lavorato in sette paesi, dove ho avuto molte opportunità per ascoltare ed apprendere lingue diverse, e mettere a punto strategie di insegnamento.
Anche quando mi occupavo di altre attività (industria elettronica), ho sempre avuto la passione per l'insegnamento, che ho potuto esprimere a livello privato sin dai tempi della laurea, ma anche nella Università di Sheffield, dove ho lavorato per sei anni recentemente.
Ho lavorato a livello professionale per due diverse scuole di lingue (Berlitz - in persona e goFluent - online) insegnando Inglese, Spagnolo ed Italiano.
Negli anni ho sviluppato idee innovative sull'apprendimento, che ho trasformato in un corso ("Apprendimento consapevole" - cercatelo su sperimentato con successo nella mia Università nel Regno Unito, con dottorandi di varie facoltà.
I miei studenti mi hanno sempre dimostrato di apprezzare il mio metodo, in cui mentre si impara, ridiamo molto e facciamo collegamenti con argomenti diversi, che aiutano a consolidare quanto si apprende.
Questo è un pilastro di una buona comprensione di lungo termine: creare legami con concetti che già sono consolidati nella nostra conoscenza. Ve ne sono altri, naturalmente, come il coinvolgere l'aspetto emozionale insieme a quello mentale, oppure il questionare certi concetti prima di accettarli.
E' stupefacente che nessuno insegni agli studenti come studiare, cosa che io sempre mi sforzo di includere nell'insegnamento.
E' anche per questo che le mie lezioni sono molto apprezzate e lasciano agli studenti il desiderio di sapere di più.


ENGLISH INTRO

As a researcher in the field of learning, and author of the Conscious Learning course (successfully tested at a Russel Group University), I've been investigating what promotes learning, and what blocks it, and why it is deeply connected to how well we use our mind.
This is why my students are always prompted to challenge what they are learning, to doubt it, to test it, even try to disprove it, until they are satisfied that they have got a solid grasp on it.
Passive acceptance of what we study is a surefire method to forget quickly, while an inquisitive mind which grapples with new concepts is the tool to conquer them for the longest time.

Every lesson needs to be a little adventure, where certainties are not easily conquered, but rather come as a result of an inquisitive effort.

Questions like: why do I need to learn this? isn't there another method? what happens if I change this formula? etc. are the starting points for intriguing dialogues, where I don't try to impose a truth, but rather suggest doubts and remarks that help the truth to stand out as self evident, giving that "A-ha" moment in the student's eyes which is the best reward for a teacher like me.

This is a method which doesn't only come from my own experience as a life-long learner, but also from studies in the field of ancient wisdom, and the mastery of our own minds.
