Alan is a self taught musician and has played the guitar for 38 years. In that time he has been involved with a diverse range of musical groups and styles from the 80's session scene in Aberdeen with Blues guitar maestro Gerry Jablonski to tours of the UK, Ireland, Italy and the USA with The Truth Band, Tannas, and Wolfstone. During this time Alan has gained invaluable experience in the many processes involved in the creation and performance of music.
Alan studied Fine Art at Grays School of Art in Aberdeen, trained & worked in Traditional Instrument making with skilled Highland Luthiers and later undertook training with Edinburgh Media & Arts Training Trust, working in and teaching Music Technology and Digital Audio techniques, producing numerous projects in Edinburgh and London.
Relocating from Edinburgh to London in 1998, he graduated from London Guildhall University in 2001 having studied Musical Instrument Technology for three years specialising in the making of Acoustic Guitars whilst teaching Music Technology part-time in The Forest Academy, Hainault.
Since returning to Inverness in 2002, Alan has maintained his passion for music and guitar, teaching hundreds of students of all ages, privately in the Highlands alongside running his own workshop making and repairing acoustic and electric guitars.
