I am a first-class biochemistry graduate of Trinity College Dublin with a passion for education. I have experience tutoring at both secondary level, to students in my local area at home, and university students, having been selected from my class group to teach cell biology to younger class groups. I structure my lessons around key areas the student is struggling with, having discerned these through communication with the student prior to the lesson. The lesson will consist of working through a PowerPoint slideshow of key areas, allowing the student to express their current understanding of the topic at hand and correcting or clarifying when required. I believe analogies are an incredibly effective learning tool and, where a student is confuse, I will often use real world examples to clarify theory. My lessons are highly exam oriented and will focus particularly on the most exam-relevant information, which I believe is critical given the abundance of material in 2nd and 3rd level biology courses. My knowledge of biology is well-rounded, having achieved top marks in my leaving certificate (A-level equivalent) and having completed 2 years of general science in university (before specialising in biochemistry), coming out near top of my class. As someone who has often been frustrated by poor and careless communication in the past, I take particular pride in making my lessons as concise and focused as possible.
