I prefer one-to-one sessions to really hone in on a student's strengths and weaknesses. I believe in consistent practice and so like to set smaller homeworks (like keeping on top of vocab or grammar) and have a range of resources at hand to help. These range from grammar textbooks to content textbooks in line with the AQA GCSE Curriculum. I prefer one-hour sessions to have a starter, main activity, and a concluding plenary for consolidation, with the 1-to-1 aspect meaning it is easier to focus on one student and really push them to do their best. I aim to create a friendly and safe environment for all my students, with their education and confidence with language skills being my utmost importance. Ultimately, Spanish is about practice. So what better way to learn that to have a confident and well-versed tutor?
An example of a session could be something on the present perfect tense. I'd aim to structure it around a topic and provide a vocab list (which I'd test the following session) and find activities based on comprehension, reading and writing, to push my student. I'd conclude the session by discussing in Spanish to construct vital oracy skills too, to really embed the focus of the session (in this case the grammar).
My experience lies in personal 1-to-1 buddy sessions (lasting half an hour) and I help other students out too, as and when I can. I've received feedback already about my teaching style and across the past year have successfully managed to work towards a foolproof method to achieving a grade 9 at GCSE, or instilling confidence in younger years. Furthermore, I achieved 8s and 9s across the board, so I'm capable in terms of other subjects too.
