My tutoring is based around what you, the student, want to learn. The first free session is a discussion of our objectives and an opportunity to plan the next few sessions. I will ask what you have covered so far in your studies, and what you want to learn during our sessions. I am happy to go through things learnt at school, or cover topics independent of class work - whatever works for you, the student! I provide study skills, such as essay writing guidance, as part of my tutoring, and am happy to provide feedback on short pieces of continuous prose.
After the first session, each lesson follows a pattern: In the first 5-10 minutes, we will recap our previous session. The next 45 minutes forms the main bulk of the session, which I encourage as a discussion of ideas, much like a Cambridge seminar. The final 5-10 minutes will be a plenary, where we recap our discussion and decide what to cover in the next session.
My qualifications:
I have A and A* grades in 4 A Levels: Classical Civilisation, Geology, Mathematics, and Further Mathematics. I have a Bachelor’s (BA Hons) in Ancient History from Durham University and a Master’s (MPhil) in History and Philosophy of Science and Medicine from the University of Cambridge. I have studied at the British School at Athens, and have just curated my first exhibition at the Cambridge University Library (accessible online).
