Lessons will be tailored to the individual needs and strengths of the students, but generally would work by first introducing the topic and seeing whether any prior knowledge exists, as well as its accuracy. The student would then be introduced to a question, based on prior exam papers with emphasis on longer essay type questions, as these will be most relevant to humanities students and will teach the skills needed to succeed in A-Levels/University. We will tackle the question by first discussing the structure of the answer, talking about paragraph structure (intro/context/analysis/conclusion etc) and what specifically the question is asking. We will then source the required information from text resources and own knowledge, allowing space for questions and covering any missing or misunderstood information. From here we will attempt an answer and then discuss how it measures to the mark scheme or example answers, identifying how we can adapt and improve for a better mark.

Throughout the process I will encourage curiosity and questions, not simple about the question at hand but also the topic at large. I endeavour to share my passion for the subject and encourage a genuine interest in the humanities using examples of true stories and interesting discussion points. Genuine subject interest is one of the primary ways we can motivate a student towards independent learning and direct their energy towards discovering how its best for them to learn. I found that when I went through university one of the biggest factors in my success was that I was quickly able to figure out what methods worked for me and what didn't and I hope to provide a guiding hand in helping my students to understand how they learn best.
