My general style is relaxed and friendly but offer accurate and easy to understand grammar rules and nuances. I typically adapt and assist the student with whatever textbook or online resources they’re already comfortable with using. Feel free to introduce it during your trial lesson.

I’m happy to also be a student’s speaking partner and help practice for speaking tests or ask spoken comprehension questions to help drill in grammar targets at a slow and easy going pace, so the student doesn’t feel overwhelmed. I also have trained experience in accurate pronunciation and Japanese rhythm.

[An typical hour lesson breakdown]
If you’re a continuing student, first we’d review the previous grammar target or lesson theme together for the first 10mins or so. If you’d like to also do greetings in Japanese, that can be added at the start of every lesson too.

Then for 40mins, we focus on the main grammar or vocabulary target together.

Then for the last 10 mins, we review the notes and corrections I have written for you together (before I send them to you).

My experience stems from having being taught Japanese at university from scratch 20 years ago, so I understand the order of the grammar we have to learn and I understand very well the cultural struggles of using a high context language (Japanese) in contrast to our native low context language (English). My degree also includes Japanese anthropology which is essential to understanding how to apply the language correctly in Japanese society, so I’m experienced in explaining the culture and social construct of Japan.
I've been in the education and teaching field in Japan since 2010 to this present day.

I look forward to connecting with you and helping you with your Japanese language journey.
