I have had 1 year of tutoring experience and the most valuable thing I’ve learnt is that developing a rapport with my students is the best way to maximise engagement and productivity.
My lessons are very interactive and can be somewhat conversational if, for instance, there is a particular concept students are struggling with. Completing my A-Levels has taught me that, to really master a subject at school, it is important to be an active learner, and I would like to help students actively engage with their course and ensure a complete understanding of and confidence with the course material.
Research has shown that interactive methods of learning (i.e. through talking through concepts and quizzing) are the most effective in getting students to understand and retain information. I will mainly use these methods in my lessons.
Finally, having recently gone through A-Levels myself, I really empathise with students who are preparing for assessments. I aim to be a friendly face that can take some of the pressure off of exams, providing helpful tips and motivation, essentially boosting students’ confidence during this time.
