I am a big fan of tutoring in a fun and practical way!

I tutored for three years at the Aquinas College Writing Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan where I collaborated with undergraduate students and university staff in both Spanish and English to improve writing skills from the brainstorming to revision stages. During this time I learned how to consult on a variety of different projects, allowing me to approach tutoring from an interdisciplinary perspective and gather the skills and knowledge to engage with different types of subject matter in editing and working with students. For training I conducted a "Praxis Project" where I engaged in extensive research around "Writing as Thinking" and found that writing is one of the greatest tools for engaging with intellectual content and coming to understand it on a deep level. I use this philosophy of writing as a process in all tutoring, editing, and writing sessions.

After college I obtained a TEFL certificate to certify me for teaching English. I spent the year after my graduating teachng myself how to speak french so I was able to move to France for a summer and work in a hostel. It worked! And I ended up having one of the greatest summers of my life. I believe in the practical elements of learning a language, and in school I learned Spanish to the point where I moved to Costa Rica for three months and worked at an agroecology farm! My teaching style embodies the belief that learning languages is fun and practical, so I focus partially on the basics like learning grammar, conjugations, and vocabulary, but I also want to have a good time as both tutor and student, which means saving time in every single session to chat in English about all topics under the sun!
