I am a patient, approachable teacher. I don’t follow a one size fits all, I get to know my students and try different strategies to help them reach their full potential. I found it difficult myself in school with ‘old-school’ traditional teaching methods of listen and learn, it didn’t work for me and doesn’t work for a lot of others. I prime myself on trying to get to know the student and what works best for them to make learning as easy for them as possible. I utilise technology as much as possible to be able to use a wide variety of devices to enhance learning experiences.
Across my time in education I have worked with a variety of students from young children to adults. I tried across different key stages in primary schools, a private pre-prep school and more recently in alternative provisions. I have around 5 years of experience of teaching students 1:1 including face to face and online via zoom on a private basis. I have fantastic feedback from parents and students. I am always open. I have worked with students preparing for 7+ and the 11+ exams and I would be happy to offer these sessions on a 1:1 or small group basis.
I also work freelance for the local authority tutoring small groups and 1:1 pupils who are in local authority care and / or have been excluded permanently from their school placements. The students I often work with now have a diagnosis of a SEMH barrier to their learning, we work together to jump the barriers together.
In summary; getting to know students in my opinion is key to successful learning. Every student is truly an individual and every lesson should and will look different!
