I have been both mentored and a mentor myself, and believe that firstly what is most important is getting to know one another and to lay out what we want to achieve from these sessions. I am naturally a chatty friendly person and want my students to feel they can talk to me and work together in making the most out of these sessions- I don’t want them to feel bored! My lessons are therefore engaging and tailored for the individual, and I ask for them to tell me what they want to focus on in advance, so I can prepare materials beforehand. This might involve powerpoints, worksheets, past papers, example answers and more. I am passionate for the subject and hope this rubs off onto my students, and having only recently took these exams myself I understand the pressure and demands on my pupils and can give my first hand advice as a student who achieved all 7s and above at GCSE, and all A*s at A level. I am therefore more than qualified in my advice, and have a lot of my own revision sources that I can use to help my students. I like to see others reach their full potential and one-on-one advice is often crucial for students to learn and thrive- I want these sessions to be an opportunity for them to voice their individual needs and concerns outside of the classroom, to someone they trust.
