I have 2 years of experience of tutoring experience where I feel I have learnt from my prior mistakes to provide an optimum lesson. I initially like to understand the students exam board and look through the spec before our first lesson. I will then try create a rough timetable to ensure we can finish content and do practice exams before end of year. I begin the lesson as setting the topic and trying to develop an understanding of what the student knows. Then I will walk through the key concepts and ensuring I ask students if they appear not to have completely understood. I try keep the dynamic friendly and open so the student is not afraid to ask questions. Then I usually walk through a practice question and again reassure them if needed. I then either make my own questions before the lesson or I use some from prior related exams. I set them in order of difficulty and check on the student every few questions. I also like the student to verbalise their method of achieving correct answers to ensure their are no mistakes and they understood the process thoroughly, and also if they got some of it wrong I can clarify the steps to ensure they completely understand. I usually like to also set a few questions before our next lesson, without giving too much as I understand they also attend school which sets their own work, to prove their understanding has been concise and clear.
