Is it useful to learn how to play the virtual piano?

I would like to learn to play the piano and I've seen that there are virtual pianos on the internet. Since I've noticed that a piano is very expensive, do you think that I can use these, at least for the first lessons?

Hello Marco. While virtual pianos do have most of the notes and sounds available, in order to learn the piano you need the weight of the keys and full scale of the instrument to learn it. With that in mind using a virtual piano might not be the best way to practice. Instead I would recommend getting a beginner piano with 55 keys for casual playing and 88 keys if you are looking to become proficient in the piano. I have a links for some good starting pianos online, would you like me to send them to you? I hope this helps :)

Hi Marco Polo,For the beginning no problem. But later you will require a piano or a keyboard. There are many cheap and successful models and payment options.

To learn the basics and notes I would say that there is no harm in it. But eventually you will need to get on a real keyboard or piano to understand finger work and positioning.

I would not recommend a virtual piano. If you are looking for an inexpensive way to try piano I would recommend borrowing a keyboard or finding a cheap second hand keyboard. That way you at least can feel the keys under your fingers and have a literal sense of where the keys are and feel some resistance as you push the notes down.

Hi! As you said, yes, pianos are very expensive, and at the very start of playing the piano, yes, of course, a virtual piano would work to learn the basics. Also, a lot of the basics of learning to play the piano come with the theory of music and not all lessons require an in-person piano. However, I would say that the further on you get the more necessary it would be for you to get a piano. My recommendation would be to invest in a good keyboard though to start with- they are much more affordable, small and will do everything you need it to do! Hope this helped! :)

Hi Marco, Yes, absolutely you can start on a virtual piano. There is a lot you can learn just by looking at a keyboard and hearing the sounds that correspond with each key. I think it’s a great idea to start here, and then, a little down the line, once you know a few melodies, you can think about getting a real keyboard. Hope that helps! Joe

Hello Marco! A virtual piano is a good starting point to learn piano. It can be useful to learn where the different keys are and so on, however, I do recommend getting a proper piano if you are certain you want to learn.

Learning to play the virtual piano can be a helpful way to get started with learning the basics of playing the piano, especially if you don't have access to a physical piano or keyboard. Virtual pianos can be found for free on the internet, and can offer a variety of features that can aid in learning, such as interactive tutorials and visual representations of music notes. However, it's important to keep in mind that the experience of playing a virtual piano is different from that of playing a physical piano or keyboard. Virtual pianos may not offer the same level of tactile feedback, which can be important for developing proper technique and finger strength. Additionally, the sound quality of a virtual piano may not be as good as that of a physical piano. Therefore, while virtual pianos can be a useful tool for getting started with piano lessons, it's important to eventually transition to practicing on a physical piano or keyboard to fully develop your skills as a pianist.

I wouldn’t cut corners—you’re going to need to invest in your own instrument eventually. You don’t need to spring for a baby grand right away—try a keyboard or digital piano. There are models & instruments for all budget types available readily.
