Hi Lucy! Firstly we need to know what a natural number is, and quite simply it's any positive integer (a positive whole number), which does not include 0. To find the mean average, you would add up the first 50 natural numbers (all the numbers from 1-50) and divide that total by 50. Obviously it can be quite time consuming to add up 50 numbers, so you can use the shortcut formula n(n+1)/2 which gives the sum of the first n natural numbers, in this case substituting n=50.
